Basset Arms

A beautiful Cornish pub providing the service, food and accommodation of a luxury hotel.

Pros: We were made to feel welcome the moment we arrived and treated as valued guests rather than visitors to the pub. Within 15 minutes of arrival a complimentary tray consisting of warm chocolate brownie and clotted cream was delivered to the room. It was delicious. Indeed the quality and presentation of the food throughout our stay was excellent. It was fresh, hot and served quickly. We enjoyed the mussels and halibut for the evening meal, the full English breakfast and afternoon cream tea. Compliments to the chef. The staff were all dressed in uniform, provided excellent customer service and very friendly. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The bed was comfortable and the shower water pressure excellent. Overall our stay exceeded our expectations and we hope to stay again.

Excellent staff, food and beautiful rooms.

Pros: Exceptional quality and very friendly staff who welcomed us and our wee spaniel. The food was excellent in the evening (curry night) and the breakfast was enormous. Great stop after a 20km walk.

Relaxing and enjoyable stay

Pros: Food was excellent, freshly prepared and sourced locally where possible. Breakfasts and several evening meals.Staff welcoming and helpful. Location near the beach. Convenient for the Coast to Coast cycle trail to Devoran, and for the Coast Path.

Cons: No cycle racks or storage. However staff were able to find secure indoor space for our bikes.

Pros: The Basset Arms had only been open a month after refurbishment when we stayed. Our room was well appointed and beautifully decorated, the shower was the best in our so far 3 weeks of travelling, and dinner and breakfast were both freshly cooked and delicious. The staff were also brilliant - very friendly and attentive. 👌

Absolutely fabulous - will definitely be back!

Pros: We love Portreath, so we were delighted when we saw that the Basset Arms had reopened. We are even more delighted now, having stayed three nights and enjoyed every minute. The rooms have been done up beautifully, as has the rest of the pub. Comfortable and stylish - it is clear that a lot of thought and care has gone into the rennovation. Food was absolutely top-notch, both breakfast and dinner. Given longer I could have eaten my way through the whole menu, which includes a nice variety of classics, local dishes, and creative combinations. You are just a minute's walk from a lovely beach. And perhaps best of all, every single member of staff we spoke to was just so genuinely helpful and friendly. Thank you so much to the whole team!

Cons: The only thing I could suggest to make the room even better would be a little shelf in the shower.

A very enjoyable stay

Pros: The Basset Arms is newly renovated and is very nicely decorated. On arrival the staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay more enjoyable. The evening meal and breakfast were very tasty. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

Great value, high standard Accomodation + Restaurant

Pros: Newly refurbished rooms finished to a high standard and very comfortable. Lovely staff, massive breakfast with lots of good options. Parking on site is a bonus and makes it all very easy. Overall great value!

Pros: Facilities felt very new and modern - located upstairs of a bar. Bathroom was large and clean, bed was large and comfortable, the room was large and had plenty of space for our stuff. Overall great feeling of cleanliness and cozyness. Breakfast was good too!

Cons: The rooms are located upstairs of the bar which can have some noise at night, but overall not terrible!
